Electric Handpieces

Electric Handpieces

There are basically two types of handpieces, air-driven and electric. Our practice utilizes electric handpieces. Electric handpieces are much stronger than air-driven due to the fact that a motor is spinning the bur as opposed to air. This electric motor makes the handpiece much quieter and produces a consistent torque, rpm, and smoother cutting and polishing actions. This allows the doctor to remove decay at a faster pace, which in turn, will cut down on the time it takes to complete a procedure. The quieter sound is also much more appealing compared to the high-pitched, "whistling" sounds that air-driven handpieces produce.
